I had a buddy with a Rhodesian Ridgeback and it was a great dog. I myself had a Rottweiler and many German Shepherd dogs too. The Rottweiler has hair like a Rhodesian Ridgeback and he loved it outside in the snow. So did my buddies dog, he loved to play outside too. And his Rhodesian Ridgeback was a runner too so they need to be well trained. If you get a good one, they can be fearless and in the old days they used to use them to hunt lions in Africa in packs and trained to hold the lion at bay while the hunters came and dispatched the lion. Great dogs. You are doing the right thing getting one from a rescue group. I got several of my dogs that way too. Rhodesian Ridgebacks were bred to hunt lions, they are excellent running and will do well in heat. pretty sure they like cold weather but can handle it as long as they out too long…but I doubt you would be out anyway. Your dog run away off leash as long as he is well trained.
